Hi everyone, this article is the second part of the series Technical Analysis, where I will be discussing price chart, indicators, chart patterns, various signals, alpha-beta measures, fundamental analysis and lots of other stuff.

In finance, understanding the performance of an investment is crucial for making informed decisions. Alpha and Beta are two measures that are widely used to evaluate the performance of an investment. They are used to determine the value added by a portfolio manager and the risk level of an investment. In this article, we will take a closer look at what alpha and beta measures are and how they can be used in evaluating the performance of investments.

Alpha: Alpha is a measure of an investment’s performance on a risk-adjusted basis. It is used to determine whether a portfolio manager has added value to the investments under management. A positive alpha indicates that the investment has performed better than its benchmark, while a negative alpha indicates that the investment has underperformed its benchmark. Alpha is considered to be a measure of the value that a portfolio manager has added to the investments under management.

Beta: Beta is a measure of an investment’s volatility in relation to the market as a whole. It measures the extent to which an investment’s returns are correlated with the market’s returns. A beta of 1.0 indicates that the investment’s price will move with the market, while a beta less than 1.0 indicates that the investment is less volatile than the market and a beta greater than 1.0 indicates that the investment is more volatile than the market. A stock with high beta is considered riskier than a stock with low beta.

Conclusion: In conclusion, alpha and beta are two important measures that are used to evaluate the performance of an investment. Alpha measures the value added by a portfolio manager, while beta measures the volatility of an investment in relation to the market. Together, they provide a comprehensive picture of an investment’s performance and risk level. These measures are widely used in stock market, especially in portfolio management. They can be used to track the performance of a stock, ETF or index by comparing it to a benchmark and determine the overall market risk level of a stock.

Generally, a stock with a high alpha and a low beta is considered to be a good investment, as it indicates that the stock is performing well relative to the market and has a low level of volatility.
